About Us
The Lower Eastern Ohio Mekoce Shawnee of West Virginia is a Shawnee village with its principal village located in Clinton County, Ohio.
The LEOMS of WV, or Mekoce Shawnee of WV, Inc. have a Village Chief and Council, with the Mekoce Principal Chief residing in Ohio. Each village also has its own respective Bundlekeeper and War Chief. Both the Mekoce Principal Chief and Village Chiefs perform marraige and funeral rites within their own states.
Our Village also visits different areas presenting educational programs teaching about the Mekoce Way of life. We uphold our traditons and ceremonies that were handed down to us through families and ancestors.
We have a drum, Struck-By-Lightning, that resides with its drumkeeper in Fairmont, WV. and we present many Drum programs around the area.
The Mekoce Shawnee of WV. is also Federally licensed to take care of injured birds of prey and has established a Raptor Sanctuary to provide a home for Raptors that are unable to be rehabilitated and released back into the wild. These birds help educate the public on ecology, conservation, and how they play apart in Native American life.
